Thin Black Stripes Linen Tea Towel by Linen Tales

The Thin Black Stripes linen tea towel by Linen Tales is a striped kitchen towel made of 100 percent European linen, woven in Lithuania and pre-washed with stones. Fine black lines run at regular intervals across a light-colored background.

The Thin Black Stripes Linen Tea Towel is a kitchen towel from Linen Tales in Vilnius that dries glasses clearly, polishes cutlery, and lines bread baskets. A loop on the corner allows it to be hung back on a hook, where the linen dries quickly between uses.

Narrow stripes on a light background

Narrow black lines run at even intervals across the light fabric, a pattern that appears as a fine gray from a distance and only reveals its structure up close. Such stripes are the oldest form of decoration for European kitchen textiles, and they work in any setting, whether in an old building or a modern kitchen. They are neutral against colorful plates, look almost graphic next to white porcelain, and create a pair rather than a repetition when combined with a solid-colored towel from the same series. Black and white always works.

Cutlery that reaches the table without water spots

Freshly rinsed cutlery dries with limescale marks in the rack when the water is hard. Anyone who wipes the items immediately with a linen towel instead will get them sparkling on the table without the need for further polishing and without lint in the fork tines. With antique silver, this step is mandatory because standing water leaves dull spots that can later only be removed with polish. Two minutes at the sink save an entire morning of using silver polish.

Why the lines keep their distance

The fabric is stone-washed before the scissors are applied and barely shrinks thereafter. The lines therefore do not distort and retain their uniform spacing over many washes. As for the colors, they are certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, a test that excludes harmful residues in the individual yarn. The double-folded hem by Linen Tales keeps the edges in shape for years, even at the four corners where the stripes terminate.

From stalk to seam in Europe

At the beginning is a blue-flowering plant that thrives in European fields on rainwater alone and requires little in the way of pesticides. The EUROPEAN FLAX label, which requires Western European cultivation and documents the entire process, verifies exactly where the fibers originate. Woven, dyed, washed, and sewn entirely in Lithuania, where linen has been a craft for thousands of years. For a product made from a European plant, the supply chain remains pleasantly short.

Wash at 40 degrees, iron inside out

Place the linen tea towel in the washing machine on a gentle cycle at a maximum of 40 degrees and set the spin speed to 600 rpm. A mild detergent without bleach is mandatory, as bleach attacks the black lines and will cause them to turn gray over time. The clothesline is sufficient for drying, and it should be ironed while the fabric is still damp. Then the lines will remain as straight as they were designed in the weave.
