Bianco Marche IGT 2024, the cuvée of Bianchello and Verdicchio from the Metauro

The Bianco Marche Bianco IGT 2024 from Azienda Guerrieri is a cuvée of 90% Bianchello and 10% Verdicchio, aged partly in oak barrels and partly in cement vats. A multi-layered white wine with notes of bergamot, pomegranate, and fine minerality.

Bianco Marche Bianco IGT 2024 from Azienda Guerrieri is a cuvée made from the Bianchello and Verdicchio grape varieties, grown on the eastern banks of the Metauro, 12 km from the sea. A wine with more structure than the estate’s single-varietal Bianchello bottlings, defined by its dual aging process in cement and oak barrels.

Two grape varieties, two different aging paths

90% Bianchello and 10% Verdicchio come from vines between 20 and 30 years old, planted at around 3,300 vines per hectare on gray calcareous mud that turns bluish just a few meters below the surface. According to Alberto Guerrieri, this specific soil composition along the Metauro is found only on this one section of the riverbank.

After hand-harvesting in late September, both varieties take separate paths: the smaller Verdicchio portion undergoes a brief skin maceration, ages for three months on the lees, and then for ten months in cement vats. The Bianchello portion rests for several months on the lees and is aged for an additional four months in oak barrels before both wines are blended for the final cuvée.

This dual aging process—partly mineral from the cement, partly oak-influenced from the barrels—gives the Bianco Marche a complexity that a simple Bianchello cannot achieve. You can taste both signatures in the same glass.

Bergamot, pomegranate, and a long finish

On the palate, the Bianco Marche is spicy, mineral, and multi-layered, with notes of bergamot and pomegranate over a fine, salty minerality. The finish is noticeably longer than that of a classic Bianchello, an effect of the barrel aging.

The Bianco Marche unfolds its depth when paired with truffle risotto or pasta with white truffle, roasted veal, or a mature, medium-firm cheese—dishes that appreciate the wine's additional structure. It also pairs well with grilled poultry seasoned with herbs.

From our own product range, we recommend a plate of Strozzapreti with mushrooms, or to finish, a spoonful of Miele Millefiori with hard cheese.

A vineyard with a unique soil, a family with a long history

The vines for this cuvée are located at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level in the so-called Metauro Valley, which is defined by the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Apennines to the west. The Guerrieri family has been cultivating their lands along the Metauro since around 1800, now in the 6th generation under Luca Guerrieri and his children, Alberto and Maria Giulia.

Of the estate's total of 207 hectares, 48 hectares are dedicated to vines, managed sustainably since 2004 without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The work for a good vintage begins in winter with pruning and extends to the hand-harvesting in autumn.

For those interested in the single-varietal side of the estate, the Azienda Guerrieri wine collection also features the classic Bianchello del Metauro DOC and the Celso selection.
