Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese DOC 2025, rounder on the entry than the previous vintage

The Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese DOC 2025 from Azienda Guerrieri is the current bottling of their everyday red, with a gentler tension than the 2024. Ripe cherry, wild berries, and velvety tannins, aged young with no oak maturation – a glass for an uncomplicated evening.

Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese DOC 2025 from Azienda Guerrieri is the estate's current bottling of its everyday red, predominantly Sangiovese, complemented by a small portion of Montepulciano. Ripe cherry and wild berries in the glass, a wine with a gentler tension than the previous vintage – made to be enjoyed young and unpretentiously, not to wait in the cellar.

A milder autumn, a rounder wine

The autumn of 2025 by the Metauro was milder than the year before, according to Maria Giulia Guerrieri, with fewer cool nights during the ripening phase and, overall, more hours of sunshine until the harvest. This noticeably lowers the acidity of the Sangiovese grapes without the fruit suffering – an effect that is noticeable in almost every glass of this vintage.

Harvesting takes place as usual in the second half of September, by hand, at optimal ripeness. The 10 percent Montepulciano content remains constant across vintages, providing color and body regardless of how warm or cool the harvest year is and how much the acidity fluctuates in the end.

Like every year, this vintage is fermented entirely in stainless steel tanks, with no contact with wood. The simple production method remains the same across all years; only the grapes themselves provide a different profile from year to year.

Softer, rounder, with a velvety entry

On the palate, the 2025 shows itself to be spicy, velvety, and fruity, with ripe cherry and a hint of wild berries, accompanied by a delicate note of violets. The gentler tension makes it even more accessible on the entry than the 2024, with very fine, barely perceptible tannins, and you can notice the difference from the very first sip.

This softer structure pairs particularly well with a platter of mixed salumi or porchetta with rosemary and garlic, as well as a simple pasta al ragù. It also stays unobtrusively in the background with a mild cheese selection rather than pushing to the front, leaving you room to discover the flavors of the dishes themselves.

From our own range, a plate of Strozzapreti with wild boar ragù is a great match, followed by a spoonful of Miele di Acacia with a mild cheese board to round things off.

Two vintages, one vineyard

The Guerrieri family has been managing their estate by the Metauro since around 1800, now in its 6th generation under Luca Guerrieri and his children, Alberto and Maria Giulia. Of the 207 hectares, 48 are dedicated to vines, managed sustainably since 2004 without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

As with the previous vintage, the 2025 remains a wine to drink soon rather than to age, just with a noticeably gentler tension by direct comparison. It is precisely this difference that makes it interesting to taste both vintages side-by-side if you want to find out for yourself which harvest year you prefer.

Those looking for more structure and aging potential will also find the Galileo Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese Riserva from the same estate in the Azienda Guerrieri wine collection.
