Moss Frizzante, the sparkling Bianchello from the Metauro

The Moss Frizzante from Azienda Guerrieri is a semi-sparkling wine made from pure Bianchello, produced using the Charmat method. With only 11% alcohol by volume and a fine perlage, it is the lightest wine in the collection, intended for warm days and seafood.

Moss Frizzante by Azienda Guerrieri is a semi-sparkling wine made from 100% Bianchello, produced using the Charmat method. Fresh, light, and with a fine perlage, it is sold as a non-vintage wine—a wine for an uncomplicated aperitivo.

Harvested early, for freshness instead of power

For the Moss, the Bianchello grapes are harvested as early as mid-August, significantly earlier than for the estate's still wines, according to Luca Guerrieri, because it is not about ripeness and alcohol here, but rather acidity and freshness. The vines are located on gentle hills sloping down to the Adriatic Sea, trained in the Guyot system and about 20 years old, planted in soil consisting of calcareous, dark clay with a thin layer of humus.

The constant, cool breeze from the sea keeps the grapes fresh even on hot August days, an advantage offered by the location just a few kilometers from the Adriatic. Pressing is done gently and pneumatically to ensure as few bitter compounds from the skins as possible enter the must.

After the first fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the second fermentation follows the Charmat method in pressure tanks, rather than in the bottle like the classic Metodo Classico. This preserves the pure fruit aromatics of the grapes and results in a fine, not overly intrusive perlage.

Light, fruity, with a fine perlage

On the palate, the Moss is fruity, light, and zesty, with notes of white blossoms and juicy stone fruit, accompanied by a noticeable yet never intrusive carbonation. At only 11% ABV, it is the most drinkable wine in the Guerrieri portfolio.

Ice-cold with mussels, shrimp, or a platter of grilled sardines, the Moss shows its best side, and it is equally enjoyable on its own on the terrace on a warm evening. It also pairs well with a light starter of burrata and a drizzle of green olive oil.

A Guerrieri VERDE olive oil unfolds its spice when paired with grilled fish, while the milder ORO suits salads – both oils come from the same estate as the wine and belong thematically on a summer aperitivo plate with fresh bread.

A summer wine from the Guerrieri family

The Guerrieri family has been farming their vineyards by the Metauro since around 1800, now in the 6th generation under Luca Guerrieri and his children Alberto and Maria Giulia. Of the estate's total 207 hectares, 48 hectares are dedicated to vines, farmed sustainably since 2004 without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

The Moss does not carry a vintage on the label because it is intended as a fresh, young wine to be drunk promptly rather than stored. That is exactly what makes it the most uncomplicated wine in the Guerrieri collection and an ideal entry point if you are tasting the house for the first time.

For occasions requiring more structure, you can also find the still Bianchello del Metauro DOC and the Celso selection in the Azienda Guerrieri wine collection.
