Nero Marche Rosso IGT 2024, the "Super Marche" from the Metauro

The Nero Marche Rosso IGT 2024 from Azienda Guerrieri combines Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Cabernet Sauvignon into a powerful cuvée, referred to on the estate itself as "Super Marche." Black cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco – aged for ten months in barriques.

Nero Marche Rosso IGT 2024 from Azienda Guerrieri is the winery's most powerful cuvée, a blend of two indigenous grape varieties and a third international one. Black cherry, plum compote, violets, and a hint of tobacco – a dense, complex wine for special occasions.

Two local varieties, one international third

Sangiovese and Montepulciano form the familiar foundation of many red wines from the Marche, but the Nero complements both with Cabernet Sauvignon – a combination referred to on the estate itself as "Super Marche," according to Luca Guerrieri, in reference to the internationally renowned Super Tuscan cuvées from Tuscany.

The grapes come from vines aged between 20 and 30 years, harvested in two rounds: 80 percent in mid-September, the rest deliberately later until early October, when the berries are overripe and particularly concentrated. After a long maceration and fermentation in stainless steel, the Nero is aged for ten months in oak barriques.

This aging process in small barriques rather than large wooden casks clearly distinguishes the Nero from the Galileo Riserva and gives it a denser, more concentrated structure with more roasted notes, noticeable even from the first swirl in the glass.

Dark fruit, chocolate, spices

On the palate, the Nero is spicy, powerful, and dense, with black cherry and plum, dark chocolate, and fine spicy notes from the barrique. The finish is long and complex, carried by present yet ripe tannins that continue to open up over time in the glass.

With a pan-seared beef steak, braised dark meat, or game dishes with a rich sauce, the Nero shows its full strength, and you will feel from the very first sip why it is considered the winery's flagship. It also effortlessly keeps pace with long-aged cheese.

From our own product range, a plate of Penne Rigate from Senatore Cappelli with a hearty game ragù is a great match, followed by a spoonful of Miele Millefiori honey with some mature Pecorino to finish.

The flagship of a family with three wines

The Guerrieri family has been managing their estate on the Metauro since around 1800, now in its 6th generation under Luca Guerrieri and his children, Alberto and Maria Giulia. The estate's vineyards are located twelve kilometers from the sea at an altitude of around 200 meters, in the so-called Metauro Valley.

Of the estate's total 207 hectares, 48 hectares are planted with vines, managed in a natural, sustainable way since 2004, without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Within the red wine line, the Nero stands alongside the young Colli Pesaresi and the aged Galileo Riserva as the most concentrated, internationally inspired bottling.

Anyone who wants to experience the indigenous side of the winery in its purest form will also find the Colli Pesaresi Sangiovese DOC without any Cabernet content in the Azienda Guerrieri wine collection, which is significantly lighter and intended for everyday drinking.
