Questions about Linen Napkins – Deep Water – Set of 2?

We are happy to help you with Linen Tales.

Deep Water Linen Napkins – Petrol Blue by Linen Tales

The Deep Water linen napkins by Linen Tales are a set of two fabric napkins in a deep petrol blue, woven in Lithuania from 100 percent European linen. The four corners are mitered, much like the flap of an envelope, allowing them to lie pleasantly flat.

Linen napkins are fabric napkins from Linen Tales in Vilnius that arrive bundled as a set of two and, at 40 by 40 centimeters, are large enough to cover your entire lap while eating soup. A piece of kitchen twine holds both pieces together until the table is set.

Petrol, hovering between blue and green

Deep Water sits right where blue transitions into green—a deep shade that, depending on the light, leans toward the sea at times and the pine forest at others. Paired with brass and dark wood, the color becomes almost velvety; next to white porcelain, it draws the eye as the singular accent. Those who set a table that isn't tied to any specific season will find in this petrol the perfect tone for all twelve months. Combined with silver cutlery and natural-colored linen, it creates an exceptionally calm aesthetic.

A winter soup deserves a weighted napkin

In winter, soup takes center stage, and a deep bowl demands something with more substance than a paper napkin. The linen lies still on your lap, catching drips from your spoon and preventing them from reaching your trousers, as the fabric first absorbs and then distributes moisture. After the meal, the pair hangs over the back of a chair and is dry again by the time you clear the table. A second bowl of soup hardly changes that, as the fiber releases moisture quickly.

The thread begins in a field in Western Europe

The plant behind it blooms blue, grows in Western European fields, and thrives solely on the rain that falls naturally. Under the EUROPEAN FLAX seal, this cultivation is documented every step of the way, from the stalk to the spinning mill and the weaving mill. Subsequently, Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX tests every single thread for residues that could be harmful to health. Dyeing, weaving, and sewing all take place in the same country where Linen Tales has its workshop. This completes the chain from the stalk to the sewing table.

Stone washing removes the stiffness from the fabric

Newly woven linen is stiff because the fibers are still tightly packed and aligned. In the drum with stones, this structure breaks down; the surface becomes matte, and the fabric drapes softly afterward. A second advantage becomes apparent later: because the fabric is pre-shrunk during this process, the napkin retains its size for years. Linen Tales puts every bolt of fabric through this bath before cutting begins. You can feel the result the first time you reach into the stack.

The tumble dryer is fine, if set to low

Wash the napkins at 40 degrees on a delicate cycle and keep the spin speed below 600 RPM so that the fabric does not warp. Tumble drying is permitted as long as it is set to a low temperature and you remove the linen while it is still slightly damp. Then, smooth the square in both directions and fold it so the edges remain straight. It is better to avoid fabric softener, as it leaves a film over the fibers and inhibits their absorbency.

Deep Water Linen Napkins – Material and Dimensions

  • Origin – Woven and sewn in Lithuania
  • Material – 100% linen, EUROPEAN FLAX certified
  • Certification – Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX
  • Size – 40 x 40 cm per napkin
  • Fabric density – 215 g/m²
  • Construction – Mitered corners on all four sides
  • Contents – Set of 2, bundled with kitchen twine
  • Color – Deep Water, deep petrol blue
  • Care – Machine wash 40 °C, do not use fabric softener

A natural raw material never takes dye exactly the same way twice, which is why a newly purchased pair might be slightly lighter or deeper than your existing ones, even without any change to the fabric itself. The table runners and cushion covers from Linen Tales, which come from the same production line, will work beautifully at the same table.
