Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool – what is the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made of 100% lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from a sheep's (very) first shearing, within the first 6 months of life. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is obtained from living sheep, usually in spring and ideally in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed a wonderful coke grey and spun into yarn. The Klippan Stella blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be barely scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft, and for this, the lambswool is extra pre-combed; however, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and the blanket may shed a little, especially at the beginning.
