Wool, virgin wool, or lamb's wool - what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket consists partly (one quarter) of virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was shorn by the Vikings who appreciated its high wool quality, and 3/4 of lamb's wool. Lamb's wool is the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is also obtained from live sheep, usually in spring, as much as possible in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and fluffed before being wonderfully dyed beige-brown and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lamb's wool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to make the blanket feel soft, for this purpose the lamb's wool is extra pre-combed, however, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be and especially at the beginning the blanket sheds a bit.

The Gotland blanket can be washed wonderfully at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Remember that the natural wool grease has a self-cleaning effect and you wash it out little by little with each wash. It is best to hang the Gotland blanket outside on the line to air out.
