Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool – what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made from 100% lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb, within the first 6 months of life. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is typically obtained from live sheep, usually in spring, ideally in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being wonderfully dyed green and spun into yarn. The Klippan Velvet blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft, for which the lambswool is pre-combed an extra time; nevertheless, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and especially at the beginning, the blanket sheds a bit.

The Velvet Avocado blanket can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your throw blanket yourself when needed. To ensure your wool blanket lasts a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect, and you wash it out gradually with each wash. It is best to hang the lambswool blanket outside on the line to air out.
