Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool – what is the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made partly (one quarter) from virgin wool from the Gotland sheep, which was already sheared by the Vikings who appreciated its high quality, and 3/4 from lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from a sheep's (very) first shearing. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from living sheep, ideally in one piece, in the spring. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed in wonderful pastel shades and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be barely scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything possible to ensure the blanket feels soft; for this, the lambswool is extra pre-combed, although this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and the blanket may shed a little at the beginning.

The Gotland Stripe blanket can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect and you will gradually wash it out with every wash. The black and white striped Gotland Stripe airs out perfectly outside on the line, without any need for mild wool detergent.
