Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool - what's the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable resource. This blanket is made partly (one quarter) from virgin wool from Gotland sheep, which were shorn by the Vikings who appreciated the high quality of the wool, and ¾ from lambswool. Lambswool refers to the wool from the very first shearing of a sheep or lamb. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is usually obtained from live sheep, mostly in spring, in one piece if possible. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being wonderfully dyed orange and spun into yarn. The Klippan Gotland blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be hardly scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms in winter and cools in summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft; for this, the lambswool is pre-combed once more. Nevertheless, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and especially at the beginning, the blanket sheds a bit.

The Gotland blanket can be wonderfully washed at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself if needed. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it's best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that the natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect, and you will gradually wash it out with each wash. It is best to hang the Gotland blanket outside on the line to air out.
