Wool, virgin wool, or lambswool - what is the difference?

Wool is a natural and renewable raw material. This blanket is made of 100% lambswool. Lambswool is the wool from a sheep's (very) first shearing, within the first 6 months of life. It is particularly soft because the fibers are still very fine. Like virgin wool, it is obtained from living sheep, usually in the spring and as much as possible in one piece. After shearing, the wool is combed and loosened before being dyed a wonderful light grey and spun into yarn. The Klippan Knut blankets are then woven from this wool. Lambswool is said to be barely scratchy, breathable, and to have excellent insulating properties. It warms you in the winter and cools you in the summer. Klippan does everything to ensure the blanket feels soft, and for this, the lambswool is extra pre-combed; however, this quality is naturally scratchier than a cotton blanket would be, and the blanket will shed a little, especially at the beginning.

The Knut throw is easy to wash at 30 degrees, so you can easily wash your cozy blanket yourself when needed. To ensure you enjoy your wool blanket for a long time, it is best to use a mild wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Keep in mind that the natural wool fat has a self-cleaning effect and you wash it out bit by bit with every wash. A few hours out on the clothesline are enough for the light grey Knut blanket between two wool wash cycles.
